How to change your password and review security
Protect access and review methods linked to the account.
Where to find it: Settings > Account > Security
How to
- Open Account Security and review linked sign-in methods.
- Link an available social provider or remove a method when the account will still have at least one secure way to sign in.
- If the account uses a password, enter the current and new passwords to change it; social accounts may also add a password.
- Use the recovery email option when needed.
- If you notice unknown activity, sign out all sessions under Data & Privacy › Devices & Sessions.
Rules and what happens next
- Keep at least one valid access method before removing a provider. Adding a password to a social account lets you use its associated email once linking completes.
- A new password must match confirmation and meet displayed requirements. The screen does not offer active two-factor authentication.
- If you suspect unauthorized access, change your password where applicable, review linked methods and sign out everywhere. Protect your social-provider account and email too.
Common problems
- Forgot current password: use Send reset email and follow the received link rather than repeatedly guessing.
- Linking failed: check the chosen provider and notice. If associated with another account, do not assume linking will merge histories.
- Recent-login request: sign in again with a valid method and repeat the change. Do not provide passwords or codes to support.
