How to configure default list privacy

How to

1. Open Lists under Privacy.
2. Choose Public or Private as the default for new lists.
3. This preference does not automatically change existing lists.
4. To change a specific list, open its editor and choose the desired visibility.

Rules and what happens next

• The preference is the starting point for new lists. It does not convert every existing list to the chosen visibility.
• Before publishing or inviting collaborators, open the list and check its own access controls. Sharing a link does not make a private list accessible to everyone.

Common problems

• An old list remains public: edit visibility on that list and save.
• Recipient cannot open it: check access and whether the link targets the correct list. Do not publish the entire list to test a link failure.
