How to use mentions, hashtags and references
Connect people, topics, titles, lists and profiles to a post.
Where to find it: Composer or comment > @, # or reference tool
How to
- Type @ and part of a name to select a person.
- Type # followed by a topic to create a searchable hashtag.
- Use the reference tool to find a movie, show or person in the catalog.
- When available, use List to attach a list to the post.
Rules and what happens next
- Select the @ search result to associate the right person, especially with similar names. A mention may generate a Ping; it does not grant access to private content.
- Hashtags group text by topic. Catalog references open the selected movie, show or person, while an ordinary link leads to the pasted address.
- Mentioning @bix in a new post requests the assistant, subject to access and usage rules. Do not add private data to the question’s context.
Common problems
- Wrong person: check handle and photo and select again before sending.
- Reference does not open the expected work: review type and year. A hashtag containing a work’s name is not a Catalog reference.
